Screencast-O-Matic

Recording the screen is a trivial task, thanks to modern-day applications. An excellent example is Screencast-O-Matic. It can record anything you do on your screen and it places several output options at your disposal. The best part is that everything can be done on the fly, without encountering any kind of difficulties. The application comes in free and paid versions and you can have it up and running in no time, regardless of which one you choose.

When launched, Screencast-O-Matic will immediately display a rectangle on your screen, which you can move and resize over the area you want to capture. The rectangle is accompanied by a series of options, such as enabling and disabling a microphone and webcam input. You can also select a preset size for the rectangle and, of course, start the recording process.

Once you start recording, the application will display a countdown to give you time to prepare. When you stop recording, Screencast-O-Matic will bring up its output interface, on which you can preview the video and choose where to store it. You can save your recordings as video files, in MP4, AVI, FLV or GIF format, at different resolutions. Additionally, the application allows you to publish the video to YouTube or upload it to its own hosting service. Before uploading a video, you can type in a title and description, assign tags and make other fine tweaks.
